Adapted Yoga- Sit, Stand or Wheel!Adapted Yoga- Sit, Stand or Wheel is a gentle form of exercise that has been adapted from floor based yoga, to allow people of all abilities to participate by sitting in a chair, standing using a chair for support or sitting in a wheelchair. It is designed by Marnie Courage, an occupational therapist who lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and owns Enabling Access, an occupational therapy company that focuses on injury prevention in the workplace and assisting individuals with disabilities to be as healthy and independent as possible. The program is lead by Adrianna Szarek, a Winnipeg based Yoga Instructor certified through the Yoga Alliance. The program was piloted in community centres and studios throughout Winnipeg, with raving reviews. People who had never tried yoga, thought they wouldn't be able to do it, were participating in weekly class, sharing their experiences of gains and overall health improvements. From this study, the video was born, bringing this valuable health promotion tool to people of all abilities and ages, regardless of where they live. Finally, people who have limited mobility from injury, illness or aging are able to experience the wonderful physical and mental health benefits that traditional yoga offers. The video includes 4 variations of the program to choose from. You can choose to watch the instructor or one of the three participants who is most like you, in mobility. You may require the use of Props (blocks or straps) to help you assume some of the poses. These props are available for purchase on our wesbite by visiting Shop for Props.
